Abu Dhabi: Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNOC, and Chairman of Masdar, has conducted a working visit to China to enhance bilateral relations and explore new cooperation opportunities in energy, renewables, industry, and infrastructure. During the visit, Dr. Al Jaber engaged with senior Chinese officials and leading business executives to foster collaboration in these strategic sectors.
According to Emirates News Agency, Dr. Al Jaber met with Lan Fo’an, China’s Minister of Finance, Liu Jianchao, Head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Zou Jiayi, President of AIIB. The presence of Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, UAE Ambassador to China, underscored the significance of these discussions. Dr. Al Jaber reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with China. He emphasized the importance of launching initiatives aimed at empowering national companies and fostering collaboration between public and private sectors to support sustainable economic growth.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber also held a series of meetings with leaders from major Chinese companies, including Wang Yuetao of ZhenHua Oil, Liao Zengtai of Wanhua, Liu Haoling of CIC, Dai Houliang of CNPC, Zhang Chuanjiang of CNOOC, Zhang Lei of Envision, and Song Hailiang of CEEC. These meetings addressed cooperation across various energy sectors such as renewables, oil and gas, LNG, refining, and petrochemicals, as well as strategic shipping and storage. Discussions also focused on enhancing investments in mutual areas of interest and potential industrial infrastructure projects, aligning with both countries’ goals of advancing industrial and technological partnerships.
China remains the UAE’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade surpassing US$100 billion in 2024, marking a 7% year-on-year growth. This growth is attributed to an 18% increase in imports. In the first quarter of 2025, non-oil trade between the UAE and China grew by about 18% compared to the previous year, driven by a 32.5% rise in exports, a 20.2% increase in re-exports, and a 12.7% growth in imports.
