Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates and the Arab Republic of Egypt have reached an agreement to gradually expand bilateral air traffic rights over the next five years. This strategic move aims to enhance cooperation in the aviation sector and increase air connectivity between the two nations.
According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement was formalized during the 11th Edition of ICAO AFI Week, held in Cairo. The signing ceremony was attended by key aviation officials, including Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and Captain Sameh Fawzy, President of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA).
The agreement outlines a phased framework for expanding air services, catering to the rising demand for air traffic and passenger movement. This development is expected to open new opportunities for airlines and strengthen economic ties between the UAE and Egypt.
Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Board of the General Civil Aviation Authority, emphasized the importance of the agreement. He noted that it reflects the strategic relationship between the two countries and aligns with their shared vision to boost regional air connectivity. The expansion is anticipated to support tourism, the economy, and investment, further enhancing the economic partnership.
Dr. Sameh Ahmed El Hefny, Egypt's Minister of Civil Aviation, highlighted the significance of this milestone in the longstanding cooperation between Egypt and the UAE. He stated that the agreement will enhance air connectivity and address the growing demand for air transport services, thereby reinforcing both countries' positions as leading aviation hubs in the region.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi remarked on the agreement's role in fostering sustainable growth in air services and creating greater opportunities for airlines and travelers in both countries.
Captain Sameh Fawzy added that the understanding reflects the constructive cooperation between the civil aviation authorities of both nations, focusing on developing a modern, safe, and sustainable air transport sector to meet future growth requirements.
