Ras al khaimah: The UAE has taken on the presidency of the eighth session of the Gulf Chemists Union (GCU), following the General Assembly meetings held at the Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah. Moza Saif Matar Al Shamsi, President of the Emirates Chemical Society, is leading the session.
According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting approved the organisation of a week-long Gulf chemistry event. This initiative will involve various stakeholders, including chemical societies, universities, colleges, institutes, schools, and the broader community, and will be modelled on Arab Chemistry Week. Additionally, the General Assembly decided that Saudi Arabia will host the union's ninth session and the fifth Gulf Chemists Forum in 2027.
The discussions at the meeting also covered the membership procedures for the Omani and Qatari chemistry organisations. Al Shamsi noted that the Gulf Chemists Union is a regional scientific and cooperative organisation established in Kuwait in 2016 and registered in Bahrain as an international entity. Its membership includes the Saudi Chemical Society, Kuwait Chemical Society, Emirates Chemical Society, and Bahrain Society of Chemists.
The union aims to unify the efforts of chemists and advance chemical sciences across GCC countries by enhancing scientific cooperation and research among specialists and researchers in the region. It facilitates specialised scientific forums and conferences that underscore the importance of chemistry in the development of Gulf societies and the provision of advanced scientific solutions.
Al Shamsi highlighted that the union participates in cultural programmes and initiatives designed to develop scientific talent in collaboration with the Union of Arab Chemists and other relevant organisations.
