UAE Celebrates International Day of Happiness with a Focus on Community Well-being

Abu Dhabi: The UAE marks the International Day of Happiness on 20th March each year, emphasizing its dedication to improving the well-being and quality of life for all its residents and citizens. As one of the pioneering countries to incorporate happiness as a key metric in its government policies, the UAE views it as a crucial indicator of national progress and success.

According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE consistently ranks among the top nations in the annual World Happiness Report, which is published by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network under the UN. This report evaluates countries based on factors such as income, economic production, social support, life expectancy, freedom, absence of corruption, and generosity.

The celebration this year holds particular importance as it coincides with the "Year of Community," a national initiative designed to promote happiness, stability, and well-being among all members of society. This initiative aims to enhance cooperation and solidarity within the community.

Over the years, the UAE has introduced several government initiatives and events to boost community happiness. In 2016, the country established the position of Minister of State for Happiness. Following a cabinet reshuffle in October 2017, the role was expanded to include the well-being portfolio. In July 2020, the portfolio for Quality of Life and Happiness was transferred to the Ministry of Community Development.
