Abu dhabi: The UAE Council for Fatwa has announced that it is permissible to give Zakat Al Fitr in cash, recommending a value of AED25 per person for the year 1447 AH (2026). This decision aims to simplify the process for the public and ensure that the primary goals of Zakat are met, including providing for the needy on the day of Eid and ensuring the rightful beneficiaries receive their due.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Council clarified that Zakat Al Fitr traditionally amounts to 2.5 kilogrammes of rice per person. This can be given either in kind, as rice, or in cash. Ahead of Eid Al Fitr, the Council issued a statement emphasizing the obligatory nature of Zakat Al Fitr, citing the hadith by Ibn Omar, which states, 'Allah's Messenger (PBUH) has made Sadaqat Al Fitr obligatory, (and it was), either one Sa' of barley or one Sa' of dates'.
Zakat Al Fitr is a mandatory duty for all Muslims who are financially capable, without distinction of age or gender. The responsibility to fulfill this obligation extends to the head of the household, who must ensure it is paid on behalf of their spouse, children, and dependents.
