Brussels:A delegation from the UAE Federal National Council (FNC) took part in a meeting of the Gulf-European Parliamentary Committee held in Brussels, Belgium. The assembly included representatives from the legislative councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting was a preparatory event for the upcoming second meeting between the Speakers of the Shura, Representatives, National, and National Assembly councils of the GCC countries and the European Parliament. This meeting is set to occur on October 16 at the European Parliament headquarters in Brussels.
During the meeting, participants discussed key topics for the forthcoming meeting between the GCC legislative leaders and the European Parliament. Discussions focused on enhancing the Gulf-European strategic partnership, boosting economic and trade cooperation, and addressing security challenges in the Gulf region. Specific issues like maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea were also on the agenda, considering their impact on regional security and international trade.
The committee further examined the potential for strengthening Gulf-European parliamentary cooperation and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering dialogue and understanding. Members also reviewed the draft joint statement anticipated to be released following the meeting.
