Abu Dhabi: In 2024, the UAE continued to lead in international humanitarian efforts, reaffirming its commitment to promoting the spirit of international solidarity and cooperation in all its forms. Since the establishment of the UAE in 1971, until mid-2024, the UAE’s foreign aid amounted to AED360 billion (US$98 billion), having a significant impact on reducing poverty, mitigating the effects of disasters and crises, supporting economic and social development, and promoting international stability and peace.
According to Emirates News Agency,highlights of the UAE humanitarian and development initiatives included the launch of the AED20 billion Erth Zayed Philanthropies by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasizing the nation’s dedication to improving lives globally. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, initiated the Mothers’ Endowment campaign, establishing an AED 1 billion fund to support education globally, signif
ying a tribute to mothers.
In alignment with global efforts against hunger and poverty, H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced a US$100 million allocation through the UAE Aid Agency. Reaching the Last Mile, a global health program, pledged AED55 million to the Global Institute for Disease Elimination. Additionally, the UAE President directed medical aid for 1,000 wounded children and 1,000 cancer patients from Gaza.
The UAE has been proactive in supporting Lebanon, with a US$100 million relief package and ongoing national relief campaigns. In November, the 18th aircraft under the ‘UAE stands with Lebanon’ campaign delivered medical supplies, alongside an aid ship with 2,000 tonnes of urgent relief. Assistance also reached Lebanese women through directives from H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak.
In response to the situation in Sudan, the UAE pledged US$100 million on 17th April and announced US$10.25 million for UN projects in Chad. The UAE also committed US$50 million to the Lives and
Livelihoods Fund 2.0 to support sustainable development in IsDB member countries. The UAE’s global humanitarian efforts extended to countries affected by natural disasters, including Burkina Faso, Brazil, and the Philippines.
