Dubai: Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, chaired the second periodic meeting of 2025 of the UAE Infrastructure and Housing Council at the Ministry’s headquarters in Dubai. The meeting focused on reviewing strategic projects and initiatives aimed at developing infrastructure sectors across the UAE.
According to Emirates News Agency, Al Mazrouei stressed the importance of intensifying and unifying efforts at the national level in infrastructure and housing, aligning with national aspirations. He underscored the need for enhanced policy coordination between federal and local levels to achieve integration among relevant entities.
He emphasized that advancing the infrastructure system and achieving high levels of efficiency and sustainability is crucial in strengthening the UAE’s international position.
The meeting was attended by Council members, including Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, and Eng. Hassan Al Mansouri, Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Transport Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. Several senior officials from federal and local entities were also present.
During the meeting, council members discussed updates on policies related to traffic congestion, aiming to gradually reduce vehicle numbers and enhance road network efficiency through flexible projects that support economic growth and alleviate congestion.
The meeting addressed the national study on sea level rise’s impact on UAE’s coastal infrastructure, emphasizing the need for flexible adaptation plans, reassessment of transportation and drainage systems, and enhanced maintenance and early warning programs to protect lives and property.
Members were briefed on the National Contractor Classification Guide initiative, which aims to unify classification standards at local and federal levels, facilitating business operations across the Emirates. This initiative seeks to enhance transparency, encourage investment, and improve construction sector efficiency, valued at approximately AED150 billion in 2024.
During its first meeting of 2025, the Council discussed infrastructure and housing project developments, future directions, and projects aimed at creating a sustainable urban environment that enhances community well-being. The meeting also addressed challenges and opportunities to promote infrastructure sustainability and develop the housing sector in alignment with the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision.
