Shanghai: The eighth edition of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2025 has commenced in Shanghai, showcasing the theme ‘New Era, Shared Future.’ This significant event is a key platform for China to open its domestic market to international products and services, aiming to transform its market potential into purchasing power and strengthen global trade relations.
According to Emirates News Agency, this year’s expo features an expanded exhibition area with participation from more than 155 countries, regions, and international organizations. Exhibitors are showcasing innovative technologies and products while exploring integration into China’s supply chains. Leading the UAE delegation is H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, representing President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE is honored as the Guest of Honour, highlighting the strong bilateral relations between the UAE and China, which have developed over the past 41 years. The UAE’s participation underscores its commitment to enhancing economic and investment cooperation with China, exploring opportunities in technology, clean energy, food security, and logistics.
The UAE-China economic relationship is characterized by robust trade ties, with China recognized as the UAE’s top trading partner in non-oil trade. The UAE is China’s leading non-oil trade partner in the Middle East and Africa, facilitating a significant portion of Chinese exports to the region. In 2024, bilateral trade reached US$102 billion, marking a 7% increase from the previous year.
Chinese business presence in the UAE continues to grow, with over 14,500 business licenses issued. In 2024, the UAE welcomed over one million Chinese tourists, highlighting its appeal as a tourist destination. Air connectivity is strong, with more than 110 direct weekly flights between the two nations.
The UAE is dedicated to advancing its strategic partnership with China, supporting initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative. With a target to raise bilateral trade to US$200 billion by 2030, the UAE focuses on energy cooperation and sustainability. The UAE has been an active partner in the Belt and Road Initiative, investing in projects and fostering economic development in East Africa.
The UAE-China Business Forum and the UAE-China Investment Cooperation Committee are pivotal in strengthening trade and investment ties, with ongoing discussions to elevate their partnership to new heights.
