UAE welcomes decisions of International Court of Justice to take provisional measures to protect Palestinians in Gaza StripQatar: The Israeli war on Gaza caused an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe

ABU DHABI: The UAE welcomed the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) preliminary rulings on the Gaza Strip that demands to take provisional measures to protect the lives of civilians in Gaza, and to stop any statements or practices, and punish direct and public incitement to commit genocide against the Palestinian people in the Strip.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasised in a statement that the UAE welcomes the decision of the ICJ, which aims to halt Israeli violations, and provide protection for the Palestinians.

The Ministry stressed that the UAE appreciates the efforts of South Africa, and reaffirms the importance of providing protection for civilians, and ensuring the entry and delivery of humanitarian and relief aid urgently, sustainably and without impediment. The Ministry also urged to avoid further loss of life, and prevent fueling the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Furthermore, it reiterated the importance of achieving the two-state solution with an independent Palestinian
state.

Doha: The head of the National Human Rights Committee in Qatar, Maryam Al Attiyah, said, “The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip caused an unprecedented humanitarian and health catastrophe.”

During a visit Saturday in Doha to a group of injured Palestinian Gazans, Al Attiyah talked about the “effective” Arab and international pressure to implement international law and international humanitarian law to “hold the Israeli occupation accountable for the crimes and genocide it commits against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”

She said over 500 wounded Gazans were evacuated from the war-torn enclave to receive medical treatment in Doha after Qatar pledged to provide medical treatment to 1,500 Palestinians from Gaza and sponsor 3,000 children who had lost their parents to the ongoing Israeli war.

She added that the war on Gaza must be a “turning point” for developing an executive programme to enable Palestinians to exercise their “inalienable” rights of self-determination without external interference, sover
eignty and independence.

Attiyah said “the grave” Israeli violations affected children, women, journalists, health workers, health facilities, international relief and humanitarian organisations and schools and shelters, adding that the Israeli war prevented medical supplies and water.
