UK Inflation Reaches 11-Month High at 3.5 Percent

London:UK inflation climbed to 3.5 percent in September, marking its highest level in 11 months. This increase comes after inflation stood at 3.1 percent in August, surpassing forecasts which predicted a rise to only 3.4 percent.

According to Wam, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) identified rising transport costs as the primary factor behind this inflationary surge. The increase in transport costs was largely due to higher fuel prices, with transport inflation escalating to 6.6 percent from 4.6 percent in August.

The ONS further reported that the average price of petrol reached 169.5 pence per litre, the highest since August 2022. Similarly, the average price of diesel rose to 192.5 pence per litre, marking its highest level since July 2022.
