Cairo: The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his grave alarm over the recent US strike on Iran that occurred early Sunday. He emphasized the urgent need for peace and cautioned against any further escalation in the region.
According to Emirates News Agency, Guterres conveyed his deep concern regarding the use of force by the United States against Iran, describing it as a perilous escalation in a region that is already on the brink. He highlighted the direct threat this poses to international peace and security, stressing the potential for the conflict to spiral out of control, which could have disastrous impacts on civilians, the region, and the global community.
Guterres urged all UN member states to adhere to their obligations under the UN charter and international law by working towards de-escalation. He reiterated the absence of a military solution and called for diplomacy as the only viable path forward.
