UN Crime Congress Concludes in UAE with Overwhelming Global Participation

Abu Dhabi:The 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice concluded in Abu Dhabi after six days of intensive international dialogue at the ADNEC Centre. This event saw the participation of more than 9,000 attendees from 121 countries, alongside over 205 international and non-governmental organizations.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Congress featured the involvement of more than 40 ministers and minister-level officials, 137 experts, and 97 speakers. It facilitated discussions on innovative approaches to crime prevention, the development of inclusive justice systems, and responses to evolving forms of crime. The event underscored the UAEs strategic role in fostering international cooperation in crime prevention and justice.

Central to the Congress was the adoption of the Abu Dhabi Declaration, a framework for international cooperation in crime prevention and criminal justice over the next five years. Comprising 18 articles and 67 paragraphs, the Declaration focuses on strengthening prevention, addressing evolving criminal threats, supporting inclusive justice systems, and enhancing international cooperation.

The Congress also marked the launch of the Pledge4Justice initiative, aimed at moving international commitments towards practical action. A total of 61 pledges were made, with the UAE being the first to submit a pledge, all aimed at supporting the implementation of the Abu Dhabi Declaration through 2031.

In his closing remarks, Abdullah Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, UAE Minister of Justice and President of the Congress, expressed gratitude to the UAEs leadership and all participants for their contributions. He emphasized the importance of transforming principles into action to advance justice and strengthen the rule of law globally.

The Congress included over 170 events and ancillary meetings, featuring discussions on various topics such as crime prevention, technology use in justice systems, and victim protection. The event underscored the need for international cooperation and adaptation of justice systems to meet the challenges of evolving crime forms and digital transformation.
