UN Security Council Calls for Action Against Digital Threats to Children in Conflict

Accra:United Nations The UN Security Council has condemned violations of international law regarding the recruitment and use of children in armed conflicts. It has urged stronger measures to protect children from abuses facilitated by digital technologies while promoting their safe use for education and child protection.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2832 (2026), which also condemns the re-recruitment of children, killing and maiming, rape and other forms of sexual violence, abductions, and attacks on schools and hospitals.

The Council has called on member states to prioritize children's needs in digital policymaking and demanded that parties to armed conflicts immediately cease violations against children, including their recruitment and use through digital technologies.

The resolution encourages the UN Secretary-General, in collaboration with his Special Representative, UNICEF, and relevant UN bodies, to collect information and lessons on the risks and benefits of digital technologies in protecting children affected by armed conflicts and enhancing their digital safety and literacy.

Furthermore, it advocates for measures aligned with international law to prevent the exploitation of children in harmful online activities, particularly focusing on the increasing risks of technology-facilitated violence against girls.
