Women organization hails draft labor, social security legislation

The Jordanian Women's Solidarity Institute Association (Tadamun) Tuesday hailed the government's passage of draft labor and social security legislation to promote women's economic participation and protect female workers in the private sector, foremost of which is raising maternity leave to 90 days as in the public sector. Tadamun (solidarity) noted in a statement that the amended Labor Law 2024 is meant to protect working women and achieve equality and fairness for female workers in both sectors. "The amendments are positive, and are in favor of Jordanian women as they protect them and their continuity in the workplace, especially new mothers, allow them to care for their children free of pressure, improve their mental health, give longer recovery time after birth, enhance the mother's health and help family stability," the statement said. The association pointed to a rise in women's economic participation in the first quarter of the year, which grew by 15.5 percent, compared to 13.7 percent in the same p eriod of 2023.
