Riyadh, The World Association of Eye Hospitals (WAEH) has elected Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Rajhi as a member of its board of directors, which includes the world’s elite health leaders in ophthalmology.
WAEH is a global gathering of eye hospitals or eye departments of general hospitals which aims to continuously improve the experience, care, and outcomes of patients with eye disorders through facilitating and promoting the exchange of knowledge between eye hospitals worldwide as well as exchanging best practices in the planning, organization, and delivery of eye care services throughout the world.
Dr. Al-Rajhi’s election as a member of the board represents WAEH’s acknowledgment of the development of health services in the Kingdom in general and in the ophthalmology in particular, taking into consideration King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, which has a long history of excellence in providing medical care, education, training and research in the field of ophthalmology, representing one of the distinguished centers globally. It comes in recognition of the Kingdom’s efforts in the health sector and the international respect it enjoys.
Previously, Dr. Al-Rajhi was elected as President of the 22-member Middle East Region of International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), served as Vice-President of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), Co-CEO of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of IAPB, and President of the Middle East African Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO), a member of the Board of Trustees of IAPB, and Secretary-General of the National Committee to Combat Blindness in the Kingdom.
He also contributed to the establishment and management of the International Association for Combating Blindness, in addition to the development of regional and international ophthalmology organizations, and led international efforts to prioritize the prevention of blindness in the plans and strategies of the World Health Organization, which resulted in the addition of eye care to the agendas of national and global health programs. Dr. Al-Rajhi has also received several international, regional, and local awards in leadership, scientific achievement, and eye care.
The placement of Al-Rajhi on the board of directors of WAEH will contribute to achieving a greater role for King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital among the elite of the best international hospitals, benefiting from global experiences and exchanging expertise and research in various fields of ophthalmology.
