Al Marar heads UAE delegation to high-level event of 75th anniversary of adoption of Universal Declaration of Human Rights


GENEVA: Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, participated in a high-level event to mark the 75th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The celebration was organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and took place in Geneva, Switzerland.

During his address at the Palace of Nations, the United Nations Office in Geneva, Al Marar emphasized that this year’s celebration coincides with significant global challenges, and urged all parties to remain steadfast in an unwavering commitment to the inherent principles and values of human rights, without any limitations or conditions.

He also announced pledges from the UAE to demonstrate its commitment to protecting human rights, including enhancing the representation of Emirati women in leadership positions in the private sector to reach no less than 30 per cent by 2025, and intensifying national efforts, in collaboration with national and international partners, to ac
hieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Furthermore, within the framework of international cooperation, the UAE pledged to build partnerships between the Permanent Committee for Human Rights and similar national entities in other countries in the field of human rights.

The minister stressed that, in the context of the consistent support provided by the UAE to the UN, the country will continue to support the activities and programmes of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and specialized funds.

Jamal Jama Al Musharakh, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, participated in the high-level event.

Several nations, UN agencies, international bodies, domestic human rights institutions, and civil society organizations have pledged to advance fundamental human rights and underscore the universal right of everyone to have access to them.
