Algerian FM holds talks with Ghana’s president on restoring order to Niger

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held talks on Saturday with Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo on means of finding a peaceful settlement to the crisis in Niger.

Speaking at a news conference in Ghana’s capital Accra — excerpts of which were monitored here — the Algerian minister said the talks with the president dealt with means of bolstering regional peace and security, adding that president Addo lauded efforts by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune aimed at resolving the crisis in Niger.

The Algerian minister, who started a regional tour on Wednesday, had already visited Nigeria before proceeding to Ghana, in efforts to try restore the constitutional rule and stability in Niger.

Military officers, on July 26, ousted Niger’s President Mohamed Bazoum, drawing outcries from various corners of the globe and triggering concerns about well-being of the elected president, reportedly held at gunpoint indoors.
