António Guterres Highlights Rising Global Conflicts and Divisions

Abu Dhabi:United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed concern over the increasing number of conflicts and geopolitical divisions worldwide. He pointed out that these issues are exacerbated by a disregard for the United Nations Charter and international law, alongside growing humanitarian needs and declining funding. According to Emirates News Agency, Guterres, in his report to the General Assembly, emphasized that conflicts are becoming more regionalized. This trend is complicating peace efforts and leaving civilians to suffer the most. The Secretary-General also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the United Nations in conflict prevention, mediation, peacebuilding, and political transitions through its special political missions and peacekeeping operations.
