Catwalk” initiative kicks off at King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve

Riyadh, The Global Catwalk initiative kicked off today at the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve in cooperation with the Catmosphere Foundation, which aims to raise awareness of the need to protect wild cats.

The reserve aimed to hold the event in four locations along the area of the reserve between the four administrative regions, in cooperation with and the participation of the local communities in each of those areas, as well as many universities and volunteer teams in this distinctive initiative, including the Green Tabuk Association, Hail Hiking Club, and Al-Tai Club, Tabuk University, Fahd bin Sultan University, Hail University, Al-Jouf University, Northern Border University, and the Tabarjal team from the Sidr Al-Jouf Voluntary Association.

The event included sections dedicated to environmental awareness, agriculture, and various recreational activities, in addition to sections to promote a healthy lifestyle, and to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the seven acutely endangered wild cats: “jaguars, cheetahs, snow leopards, leopards, lions, tigers, and Cougars.”

The “Catwalk” initiative is an awareness march held annually, aimed at spreading awareness of the interdependence of collective well-being with the creatures around us, as well as encouraging community members to practice walking for a distance of up to 7 kilometers.

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Natural Reserve is the largest natural reserve in Saudi Arabia. It covers 130,000 km². KSRNR is known for its pure nature, fresh air, geographic and heritage diversity, and rare monuments dating back to about 8,000 BC. It is located in the north of Saudi Arabia besides the Jordan–Saudi Arabia borders. It consists of three primary conservation areas which are Khunfah, Tubaiq, and Harrat Al-Harra.
