China opposes US interference in Hong Kong-related issues

China on Wednesday strongly dissatisfied with the US “manipulation” of Hong Kong-related issues.

This came in a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning at a press conference in response to the US House of Representatives’ move to pass a bill to revoke the immunity enjoyed by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in the US and close it.

Mao said the US side had spared no effort in enacting “discriminatory” laws to politicize and exploit normal economic and trade cooperation, stressing that such attempts would inevitably fail and harm their owners.

The spokesperson urged Washington to stop continuing to pass the relevant bill immediately, deliberately smear Hong Kong and its agencies abroad, and stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, to avoid harming the stability and development of bilateral relations, warning that her country will take firm countermeasures if the US continues its approach.
