China’s Producer Price Index Rises by 3.9% in May

Beijing: China's Producer Price Index (PPI), which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, rose 3.9 percent year-on-year in May, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said today. This increase highlights the continued upward pressure on production costs within the country.

According to Emirates News Agency, on a month-on-month basis, the PPI increased by 0.5 percent in May. This growth was a slowdown compared to the 1.7 percent rise recorded in April, indicating a moderation in the pace of monthly price increases at the factory level.

Additionally, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), a key gauge of inflation, showed a year-on-year increase of 1.2 percent in May. This data provides insights into broader inflationary trends impacting consumers in China.
