Conclusion of national workshop on conducting climate change assessment and national health adaptation plan


The national workshop on conducting a climate change assessment and the national health adaptation plan was concluded in Sanaa, organized by the Ministry of Public Health and Population in cooperation with the World Health Organization.

The three-day workshop, with the participation of various relevant parties, aimed to build health systems capable of adapting to the climate and environmentally sustainable, and to evaluate health care facilities and hospitals towards protecting them and their resilience from the effects of climate change and their environmental sustainability, as well as assessing risks for health care facilities and selecting a survey team and gathering information.

At the conclusion of the workshop, which was attended by the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Mutahar Al-Marouni, the Director of Disease Control and Epidemiological Surveillance, Dr. Ihab Al-Saqqaf, the Water and Environmental Sanitation Officer at the World Health Organization, Abdul-Malik Mufaddal, and the organization’s advi
sor, Saleh Rababaa, the participants recommended the necessity of establishing an event management unit within the programs of the General Administration for Disease Control and Surveillance as a communication point between the Ministry of Health and all concerned parties regarding climate change and its impact on public health, forming a national team led by the Ministry of Health and representatives of concerned authorities to lead the evaluation process and prepare the health plan to adapt to climate change within the framework of the national adaptation plan.

They stressed the importance of assessing current health systems and identifying the risks and vulnerabilities they may face as a result of climate change, setting specific goals for adapting to the effects of climate change on health systems and health facilities, and developing specific action plans based on global best practices to improve the resilience and environmental sustainability of health systems.
