Brussels: In 2025, 20% of enterprises in the European Union with 10 or more employees utilized artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in their operations. This marks a substantial increase of 6.5 percentage points from the 13.5% recorded in 2024. Compared to previous years, such as 2021 (7.7%) and 2023 (8.1%), the adoption of AI technologies is clearly gaining traction among EU businesses.
According to Emirates News Agency, the countries leading this adoption trend in 2025 were Denmark with 42%, Finland at 37.8%, and Sweden at 35%. Conversely, Romania (5.2%), Poland (8.4%), and Bulgaria (8.5%) had the lowest shares of enterprises using AI technologies.
Almost every EU country reported an increase in the percentage of enterprises incorporating AI technologies compared to the previous year. Denmark saw the most significant rise with an increase of 14.5 percentage points, followed by Finland with 13.5 percentage points and Lithuania with 12.5 percentage points.
Among the various applications of AI technology, the most prevalent use was for analyzing written language, reported by 11.8% of enterprises. This was followed by the generation of pictures, videos, sound/audio at 9.5%, the generation of written or spoken language at 8.8%, and converting spoken language into machine-readable formats at 7.2%.
When compared to 2024, the use of AI for analyzing written language saw the most growth in 2025, increasing by 4.9 percentage points, followed by the generation of written or spoken language, which grew by 3.4 percentage points.
