Brussels: The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued a directive advising airlines to avoid Venezuelan airspace amid concerns over heightened risks following recent US military strikes. The agency has highlighted the potential activation of air defence systems as a significant threat to civil flights.
According to Emirates News Agency, EASA released a Conflict Zone Information Bulletin specifically addressing the Venezuelan airspace. The advisory is based on several elevated risks, including the possible deployment of advanced air defence systems and unpredictable military activities that could jeopardize commercial flights.
The bulletin further elaborates on the dangers, stating that the current situation raises the likelihood of miscalculation or misidentification of aircraft, which could inadvertently lead to the targeting of civilian flights. EASA considers the risk level to civilian flights in the area as high, prompting the advisory for airlines to steer clear of Venezuelan airspace for the foreseeable future.
