Tripoli: The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Libya announced today, Wednesday, the evacuation of (119) irregular migrants from Libya to Italy without indicating their nationalities.
The office explained in a statement that the Commission will work during the next three years to evacuate (1400) migrants from Libya to Italy, pointing out the importance of sharing responsibility between countries receiving refugees, and working side by side with the State of Libya with the aim of creating safe paths and opportunities for refugees exposed to dangers that threaten their lives.
The Minister of Interior of the Government of National Unity, Imad Al-Trabilsi, had confirmed in a previous press conference Libya’s rejection of settling migrants on its territory, indicating that between 70 and 80% of the foreigners present in Libya, who number about two and a half million foreigners, are classified as irregular migrants.
Al-Trabilsi said that the illegal immigration file threatens Libyan
national security, and Libya cannot bear the burden of this complex file.
