Flash Floods Claim 10 Lives Across Kenya Amid Torrential Rains

Nairobi: Flash floods caused by heavy rains pounding Kenya have claimed at least 10 lives across the country this week, the police confirmed on Saturday. The National Police Service reported that the eastern region experienced the most fatalities, with severe flooding leading to road closures, property damage, and significant displacements affecting many communities.

According to Emirates News Agency, the police disclosed that out of the ten casualties, seven were from the eastern region. The statement, issued in Nairobi, emphasized the impact on transportation, highlighting the destruction of two critical bridges that have severely disrupted the movement of goods and people in the Coastal and eastern regions.

Authorities have urged residents, particularly those in high-risk and affected areas, to stay vigilant, avoid flooded zones, and follow advisories from local authorities. The flash floods are a stark reminder of the country's vulnerability to climate change, following a previous incident in March that resulted in 112 fatalities due to similar conditions.
