General Assembly Approves $5.4 Billion UN Peacekeeping Budget for 2025-2026

New york: The General Assembly has approved a budget of $5.38 billion for United Nations peacekeeping operations for the fiscal year 2025-2026. This figure represents a slight decrease from the previous year as delegates concluded weeks of negotiations that highlighted ongoing funding challenges.

According to Emirates News Agency, last year’s peacekeeping budget was set at $5.59 billion for 14 operations. The reduction in the budget for 2025-2026 is attributed to the final settlements of former missions in C´te d’Ivoire and Liberia. UN peacekeeping remains a significant activity, with nearly 70,000 personnel, including military, police, and civilians, deployed across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
