Suez Canal Shipping Traffic Unaffected by Drillship Capsizing in Red Sea: SCA

Cairo: Marine traffic through Egypt’s Suez Canal has not been affected by the capsizing of a drillship in the Red Sea, the waterway’s authority confirmed. The vessel capsized on Tuesday evening in the Gabal El Zeit area of the Gulf of Suez, approximately 130 nautical miles from the canal’s southern entrance.

According to Emirates News Agency, Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), stated that the incident did not disrupt traffic through the waterway. The Suez Canal is a vital passage for about 12% of global shipping traffic and serves as a significant revenue stream for Egypt.

Rabie assured that the canal’s navigation continues to operate smoothly in both directions at its usual rate and was unaffected by the capsizing of the Admarine 12. He reported that by Wednesday afternoon, 33 vessels had already transited the canal, with a net tonnage of 1.4 million.
