Hamdan bin Mohammed Approves AED500 Million Master Plan for Umm Suqeim Beach Development

Dubai: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has approved a master plan to develop Umm Suqeim Beach into an iconic destination that embodies a distinctive Emirati identity. This project, led by Dubai Municipality, is part of a broader initiative to enhance Dubai's standing as a global tourism hotspot by revitalizing public beaches across the emirate.

According to Emirates News Agency, the AED500 million project aims to integrate world-class design elements and advanced technology to elevate Dubai's beaches, reflecting the city's innovative spirit and commitment to high urban planning standards. The initiative is seen as a key step in enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors, aligning with Dubai's vision to be the best city globally for living, working, and visiting.

The development project is in line with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. These strategies focus on creating integrated public spaces that support healthy lifestyles, optimize coastal land use, and build sustainable urban infrastructure for Dubai's future growth. The project spans 3.1 kilometres, covering approximately 445,000 square metres, with a significant increase in beach area and developable spaces. Smart lighting systems will be installed to support evening activities along 130,000 square metres of the beachfront.

The master plan was shaped through extensive social, environmental, and traffic studies, as well as community engagement. These efforts ensure a balance between tourism development and the preservation of the environment and residential privacy. The plan was approved with the presence of key figures such as H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, and Mattar Al Tayer.

Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita highlighted that the project demonstrates Dubai Municipality's dedication to delivering cutting-edge tourism infrastructure. The focus is on creating a versatile beach destination that combines leisure, sports, and culture, ensuring safety, accessibility, and inclusivity for all, including people of determination and senior citizens. The redeveloped beach is expected to attract up to 6 million visitors annually, with a 200 per cent increase in parking capacity and improved road access.

The project includes six architecturally distinct gateways, 10 mobility hubs, 11 taxi points, facilities for bicycles and electric scooters, and a 38-metre observation tower inspired by Dubai's maritime heritage. Sustainability is a core component, with measures to address rising sea levels, such as a two-kilometre retaining wall and elevated beach levels, alongside an AI-powered facilities management system for increased efficiency.

Dubai Municipality aims to engage investors and private sector partners through this project, reinforcing public-private partnerships and boosting the emirate's tourism economy. The master plan underscores the vision to transform Dubai's beaches into globally recognized urban and tourism landmarks.
