Hamdan Bin Zayed Oversees Relief Efforts for Cyclone ‘Kristine’ Victims in Philippines.


Manila: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC), conducted a phone call with the ERC delegation in Manila to receive updates on the relief operations being carried out for those affected by tropical Cyclone Kristine in the Philippines. The cyclone recently impacted the southeastern Asian country, prompting immediate humanitarian response efforts.

According to Emirates News Agency, the ERC has been actively mobilizing resources to align with the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The focus is on providing consistent support and assistance to nations in need, guided by principles of humanity and impartiality regardless of race or religion. The ERC delegation has completed the first phase of the UAE aid distribution in the Sorsogon province, one of the areas most affected by the cyclone. The relief operations included distributing humanitarian aid in municipalities such as Bulan
, Irosin, Juban, Casiguran, and Sorsogon City, marking the second delegation to manage the relief efforts.

Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to the Philippines, highlighted the strong bilateral relations between the UAE and the Philippines, emphasizing the enduring human ties that motivate the UAE’s support for the cyclone victims. He reaffirmed the UAE’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian and developmental assistance in the Philippines.

Rex Gatchalian, Secretary of Social Welfare and Development of the Philippines, expressed gratitude towards the UAE’s leadership for their prompt response to the crisis. He recognized the early arrival of aid as crucial for providing necessary support to the victims and praised the ERC delegation for their rapid deployment and effective response in the affected regions.

Senator Aquilino echoed similar sentiments, underscoring the shared values that bind the Emirati and Filipino peoples. He noted the strengthened communication and relationships between the two na
tions and acknowledged the UAE’s vital role in humanitarian efforts, particularly during natural disasters that frequently affect the Philippines.
