At least 29 people were killed due to lightening in the Bihar and Uttar Pradesh states, the Indo Asian News Agency said on Wednesday.
Quoting a local authorities in Bihar, the agency said that 23 people were killed in different parts of the state in the last 24 hours due to lightening. Meanwhile, Rohtas district in Bihar was the worst hit as it reported six deaths followed by three each in Jahanabad, Buxar and Jamui and two each in Gaya, Banka and Bhagalpur districts; and one each in Aurangabad and Katihar districts. On its part, Azamgarh district administration in Uttar Pradesh informed that six people were killed and one child was injured due to lightning in the district. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolence over the loss of lives and announced compensation to the kin of the deceased. With the onset of monsoon season, several parts of India are witnessing torrential rain accompanied by high speed winds leading to loss of several lives as it triggers landslides and flood like situation.
