The Maltese Minister of Energy and Environment, Miriam Dali, said that her country is currently studying the feasibility of establishing a link for renewable energy between Malta and Libya after signing a memorandum of understanding in this regard between the two countries.
Dali stated in a press statement that they are working at the moment to determine whether this project is possible or not.
On the details of the memorandum of understanding, which was signed last June with Libya, Dali said, “We have signed this memorandum of understanding with Libya, where there is a vast area of land and a huge resource of the sun, so there is a possibility to produce renewable energy through solar panels much more than there is potential in our country.”
She highlighted that such projects can help achieve stability in countries such as Libya, noting that there are similar energy agreements for other countries with Libya that have begun to be implemented and that they need to see such ongoing projects.
She indicated that the memorandum of understanding was to agree on the project in principle, but the work now is focused on analyzing whether the project itself is possible or not.
