Men’s triathlon race postponed due to Seine River toxicity levels

PARIS, The World Triathlon Corporation announced on Tuesday that the men’s triathlon was postponed to Wednesday due to the high pollution levels of the Seine River.

World Triathlon said in a statement that a meeting regarding the water quality was held and attended by representatives of Olympic organizers, during which water quality was checked and a decision has been made to postpone the triathlon to Wednesday.

The women’s triathlon was also scheduled to take place on Wednesday. Both triathlons are subject to the upcoming water tests complying with the established World Triathlon thresholds for swimming.

The organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the World Triathlon stress that their priority is the health of the athletes, as tests carried out in the Seine revealed high toxicity levels.

“Unfortunately, meteorological events beyond our control, such as the rain which fell over Paris on 26 and 27 July, can alter water quality and compel us to reschedule the event for health reasons. Despite the imp
rovement on the water quality levels in the last hours, the readings at some points of the swim course are still above the acceptable limits,” the statement added.
