Mikdad, Khaji discuss distinguished relations between Syria and Iran

Damascus, Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad, discussed Monday with Senior Assistant to Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Asghar Khaji the distinguished relations between Syria and Iran and the continued coordination regarding the latest developments in Syria and the region.

Viewpoints of the two sides were identical as they rejected any external intervention in the work of the Committee of discussing the Constitution with consideration that it is Syrian-Syrian dialogue, led and owned by Syria.

In this regard, Minister Mikdad appreciated the constructive act of the national delegation during the rounds of discussing the constitution and the importance of continuing its work depending on the rules and references that govern its work.

Mikdad also briefed the Iranian delegation on the positive developments Syria is witnessing, particularly the national reconciliation process in Syrian different provinces.

Khaji, in turn, briefed Mikdad on the latest developments related to the ongoing negotiations about the Iranian nuclear file and the importance of Western parties’ commitment to the requirements of this agreement, especially with regard to lifting sanctions on Iran.

Khaji reiterated Iran’s stance in support of Syria against current challenges.

“Syria passes through reconstruction process and new economic conditions,” Khaji said in a press statement following the meeting, stressing the importance of continuing consultation between the two countries regarding return of refugees and meetings of the Committee of Discussing the Constitution.
