Beijing: The Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative has entered into a collaboration with the Institute of Seawater Desalination and Multipurpose Utilisation (ISDMU), affiliated with China's Ministry of Natural Resources, through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing technological innovation in desalination.
According to Emirates News Agency, the MoU was formalized during a ceremony attended by Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, UAE Ambassador to China, and Xiang Wenxi, Director and Vice Party Secretary at ISDMU. The agreement will focus on exploring joint research, training programs, and projects related to desalination technologies.
The partnership seeks to foster scientific and technological collaboration between the UAE and China, promoting direct cooperation and capacity building among public sectors, industries, and academic institutions in both nations.
Ayesha Al-Ateeqi, Executive Director of the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, emphasized the significance of this agreement, stating that it marks a crucial step in bolstering technological innovation and international cooperation in desalination. She highlighted desalination as a key technology to tackle global water challenges and expressed the mutual commitment of the UAE and China towards sustainable and cost-effective water solutions.
Xiang Wenxi expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting ISDMU's unique position as China's only non-profit state-level research organization focused on seawater desalination and utilization technologies. He highlighted the potential for enhanced bilateral cooperation and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing to advance desalination technologies.
This collaboration embodies a shared vision to innovate and address global water scarcity, support communities, and promote sustainable development.
