Fujairah: H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, highlighted the importance of critique in Arab culture’s history, especially in literature, philosophy, and thought, at the launch of the fourth Fujairah International Philosophy Conference.
According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed stressed that critique is vital for fostering objective intellectual freedom, promoting mutual understanding, and enhancing societal awareness through critical thinking, dialogue, and analysis. The conference, organised by the Philosophy House in Fujairah and held under Sheikh Mohammed’s patronage, aligned with World Philosophy Day and focused on ‘Philosophical Critique’.
Sheikh Mohammed reiterated the Fujairah government’s commitment to promoting thought and culture in society, following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah. These initiatives aim to establish a knowledge-based society, empower individuals, an
d foster generations valuing knowledge and intellectual development, thereby contributing to national progress and global competitiveness.
Moreover, Sheikh Mohammed stressed the importance of promoting intellectual and cultural dialogue among global intellectual communities. He pointed out the value of exchanging experiences, knowledge, and ideas on subjects that advance human thought, support its development, and create opportunities to enrich discussions on philosophical issues, particularly focusing on critique.
Sheikh Mohammed praised the conference topics and commended the participants for their contributions to its success. The opening ceremony included a welcome address by Dr Ahmed Barqawi, Dean of the Philosophy House, and a visual presentation on the historical evolution of philosophical critical thought. Professor Purushottama Bilimoria from the University of San Francisco delivered a speech on the significance of philosophical critique from various cultural perspectives.

Chaired by Dr Sulaiman Al Hattlan, the session explored the distinctions and intersections between philosophical and cultural critique, emphasizing their significance and comprehensive concepts.
