Music, Maps, and Stories Enrich July Events at Mohammed Bin Rashid Library

Dubai: The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library (MBRL) is set to host a series of recreational and educational events throughout July, aiming to promote knowledge and culture across the community.

According to Emirates News Agency, the month kicks off with a musical evening in collaboration with the Emirates Music Band. Under the guidance of maestro Ahmed Taha, artists Ahmed Al Radwan, Saif Al Ali, and Jassim Mohammed will perform well-known Emirati and Khaleeji melodies.

In the creative workshop titled “The World Between Lines and Symbols”, attendees will delve into the history of map design. The session offers interaction with rare historical maps and atlases, along with guidance on designing maps using symbols, color, and composition.

As part of the “Our Life in the UAE” initiative, launched by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, the library will partner with Sandooq Al Watan for a storytelling workshop. This session will focus on writing short stories based on personal experiences in the UAE, with selected stories being compiled into a publication or exhibition.

Film enthusiasts can look forward to an international short film night curated with Cineolio, featuring films like “Classmate” (Spain), “Interruption” (Poland), “Sniper” (Egypt), and “Vortex” (Republic of Korea).

Coinciding with the summer holidays, MBRL will launch its “Our Summer at the Library” programme, offering children and young adults a variety of interactive and educational activities.

The month also sees the launch of “My Father’s School” by Mohamed Jassim Al-Rais, in partnership with Kuttab Publishing House. This event serves as a tribute to the author’s father’s legacy.

Chess returns to the forefront with the World Blitz Chess Championship, in collaboration with the UAE Chess Federation, following last year’s successful edition.

A practical workshop, “Lens Towards the Sky”, will cater to space and photography enthusiasts, focusing on the art of astronomy and night-sky photography.

The month concludes with a discussion and book signing for “Tawaya and Other Plays” by Emirati playwright Abdullah Saleh Al Rumaithi, which addresses social and cultural themes in the local dialect.
