Muslim Council of Elders Highlights Dialogue Among Civilizations as Key to Global Peace

Abu dhabi: The Muslim Council of Elders, chaired by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has emphasized the importance of dialogue among civilizations as a crucial tool for fostering understanding and rapprochement among diverse peoples and cultures. This approach is seen as vital for consolidating values such as peace, coexistence, and mutual respect, which in turn help address global challenges and contribute to a secure and stable future for all.

According to Emirates News Agency, in a statement marking the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations, the Council highlighted the urgent need to strengthen a culture of dialogue and cooperation among civilizations. It noted that cultural and civilizational diversity serves as a source of human enrichment and intellectual complementarity. Throughout history, various human civilizations, with Islamic civilization among the foremost, have contributed to a shared human legacy through interaction and cooperation.

The Muslim Council of Elders is actively promoting dialogue across civilizations and cultures, driven by the belief that understanding and cooperation are fundamental to achieving global peace. The Council has organized several rounds of the East-West Dialogue for Coexistence and launched initiatives such as the International Peace Convoys, the Emerging Peacemakers Forum, and student dialogue programs for Human Fraternity. These efforts aim to enhance communication among followers of different religions and cultures.

Furthermore, the Council underscored the significance of the Document on Human Fraternity, signed in Abu Dhabi in 2019 by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb and Pope Francis. This document is viewed as a global model for constructive dialogue and cooperation among different religious and cultural groups. The Council reaffirmed the necessity for humanity's future to be built on dialogue, understanding, and cooperation, while promoting peace, justice, and mutual respect.
