Muslim Council of Elders Hosts Seminar on Environmental Responsibility at Abu Dhabi Book Fair

Abu Dhabi: As part of its cultural and intellectual programme at the 34th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, the Muslim Council of Elders organised a seminar titled "Environmental Protection is a Human Responsibility." The seminar was presented by Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Ali Al Nuaimi, who serves as the Environmental Advisor to the Government of Ajman.

According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Dr. Al Nuaimi began the seminar by affirming that sustainability is a reflection of the UAE's vision and its leadership in protecting the planet and its natural resources. He linked this vision to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's famous words, "Give me agriculture, and I shall guarantee you civilization."

Sheikh Dr. Al Nuaimi emphasized the importance of integrity as the foundation of sustainability. He advocated for the adoption of human values such as honesty, integrity, and justice, which he noted are deeply embedded in Emirati society. He described Emirati society as a "rare diamond" in terms of its leadership, people, and land.

He also commended the efforts of the Muslim Council of Elders, led by His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, in enhancing the role of religious leaders in tackling global challenges like climate change. The Council has been instrumental in organizing the Global Summit of Religious Leaders, which led to "The Call of Conscience: The Abu Dhabi Joint Declaration on Climate." The Council also initiated the establishment of the Faith Pavilion at COP28 and COP29.

Sheikh Dr. Al Nuaimi further explained that intellectual and cultural sustainability is supported by reading and responsible writing. He remarked, "When you open a book, you open a window to a new world and plant seeds of wisdom in your heart. Every act of reading builds the self, and every act of writing is a legacy for future generations."

In his role as Environmental Advisor, he urged for the revitalization of rivers and the protection of endangered species from extinction. He highlighted that safeguarding nature begins with human awareness of their responsibility toward the Earth, sharing his personal experiences such as his visit to the kingdom of rare gorillas in Rwanda. He noted that these creatures provide a living lesson in behavior and harmony with nature.
