WASHINGTON: The new Alliance of Virtue (Hilf al-Fudul), in Washington, D.C., announced yesterday that it is organising an international event on 21st September to mark the International Day of Peace, in collaboration with its partners, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The meeting followed the rotating meeting of the Executive Committee, which was held on 12 and 13th August in Washington, D.C., chaired by Dr. William Fray Vendley and attended by Sheikh Al Mahfouz bin Bayyah, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum, and a number of prominent members of the Alliance.
The meeting discussed the Alliance’s semi-annual operational plan and the current challenges facing peacemakers, religious leaders and others.
In his speech, Dr. William Fray Vendley commended the UAE for its unwavering support of peace and its commitment to building a civilisational model rooted in virtue and human fraternity. He also expressed gratitude to the US government for its support of the Allia
nce and productive collaboration.
Sheikh Al Mahfouz bin Bayyah said that he participated in the meeting under the guidance of Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, Head of the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace, and came with a message of hope to advance peace efforts, and to emphasise the Forum’s continued commitment to the vision of global peace.
He emphasised the importance of the desired goals and hopes for peace, which remain an intended horizon and guideposts to which good souls, enlightened minds, and virtuous societies aspire.
The new Alliance of Virtue, whose charter was ratified in Abu Dhabi in 2019, seeks to highlight and operationalise religious values that serve peace and human fraternity.
