PPC, Qatar Museums Celebrate World Population Day 2024

Doha: The Permanent Population Committee (PPC) of the State of Qatar, in collaboration with Qatar Museums, is organizing a celebration on World Population Day 2024, on Monday, at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ).

The celebration comes in response to the recommendation of the UNDP’s Governing Council in 1989, which approved July 11 each year to be observed by the international community as the World Population Day.

This annual event aims to raise awareness of population-related issues and to focus attention on their urgency and importance in the context of comprehensive development plans and programs and the need to find solutions for such issues.

In addition to the staff of Qatar museums, this celebration will be attended by members of PPC, members of its Technical Bureau, members of the task teams following up on the implementation of the Program of Action of Population Policy and others interested in population and development issues.

To mark this occasion, Director of NMoQ HE Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Ha
mad Al-Thani stressed the importance of cooperation between Qatar Museums and PPC and the significance of bolstering this cooperation, highlighting the role of Qatar museums in protecting Qatari heritage manifested in the country’s museums and archaeological sites.

For his part, Vice Chairperson of PPC, Sultan bin Ali Al Kuwari, thanked Qatar museums for hosting this celebration, highlighting the significance of the celebration on the World Population Day during which its objectives converge with that of the State of Qatar represented in giving foremost attention to the population issues, stemming from Qatar’s continuous project and approach to build an advanced society based on respect for human rights and the constant improvement of the standard of living for its citizens and residents.

Al Kuwari elucidated that such an interest was culminated in issuing the Qatar National Vision 2030 in 2008, which aims to develop the population of the State of Qatar in order to be able to build a prosperous society. He
highlighted that this vision has provided the general framework for developing successive national development strategies, forming the basis upon which successive population policies were based.

These policies aim to bring about quantitative and qualitative changes in population variables and related issues through a series of plans and implementation programs.

Presentation will be given on PPC highlighting its key milestones, with Qatar Museums holding a special exhibition on its work and various activities, including efforts in developing Qatar’s museums. Participants will also take a tour of NMoQ to explore its collection related to Qatar’s heritage, arts, and inveterate culture.
