Prisoners Authority: The occupation authorities continue to detain 86 Palestinian women

Ramallah – Ma’an – The Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs and Freed Prisoners reported this morning, Tuesday, that the Israeli occupation authorities are still detaining 86 Palestinian women, all of them in Damon prison, and only two female prisoners in the Maskoubiyeh interrogation center.

The Commission’s lawyer was able to visit the prison and meet with the two prisoners, Hadeel Shatara (32 years old) from the town of Al-Mazra’a Al-Sharqiya, east of Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate, who has been detained for two months and has been issued an administrative detention order for a period of ‘6 months,’ and Salwa Hamdan (45 years old), from Al-Dheisheh Camp in Bethlehem Governorate, who has been detained for 4 months and is still detained. He listened to them and learned about their living and health conditions.

The Commission explained that the general situation of female prisoners is still difficult and complex, and there are daily, intentional and deliberate practices aimed at harming them and affecting th
eir psychology, without taking into account any of their privacy.

The Commission stated that the past few days have witnessed a problem with the breathing process of female prisoners, due to the prison administration spraying their rooms with insecticides, which led to the emission of bad odors that greatly affected their health, as they spend most of their time inside the rooms and only go out for a break for one hour only.

The Commission confirmed that the living and health conditions in Al-Damon Prison are still the same, with punishments, deprivation, and indifference to the demands of female prisoners, as well as a shortage of clothing, food, and water, high temperatures and humidity, and other daily life needs, all of which are absent, and are used as a means of torture and deprivation.
