Guangzhou: H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, explored the cultural district of Guangzhou and attended a Canton opera performance during his four-day visit to Guangdong Province in China. The visit was part of efforts to sign a cooperation agreement between Ras Al Khaimah and Guangdong, the most populous province in China.
According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Saud was invited to experience the historical Yong Qing Fang Street and enjoy a traditional Canton opera, which Guangdong is renowned for. H.H. Sheikh Saud emphasized the importance of understanding and respecting the culture and traditions of those they engage with, stating that successful partnerships are rooted in meaningful connections, mutual respect, and appreciation for one another’s heritage. He highlighted that embracing cultural diversity can unlock potential for collaboration, innovation, and long-term growth.
Yong Qing Fang Street, situated in the Liwan District of Guangzhou, featur
es buildings and gardens with the distinct Lingnan architectural style associated with China’s southern provinces. The street is known for its historically significant buildings with pagoda roofs, tea houses, and book stores. The Canton Opera provided a taste of traditional Guangzhou culture and music, set in the heart of the city’s vibrant artistic scene.
Guangdong, with a population exceeding 126 million, boasts the largest economy of any Chinese province, with a GDP of US$1.9 trillion (AED 6.98 trillion) in 2023. The province is a major manufacturing hub, with key sectors including electronics, automotive, textiles, pharmaceuticals, high-tech industries, finance, and real estate.
