Riyadh, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia chaired yesterday the US-GCC Working Group on Iran at the headquarters of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) headquarters in Riyadh.
Following the meeting, an official statement was issued condemning Iran’s aggressive policies, expressing its concern over Iran’s nuclear program, which is a source of grave concern, calling on Iran to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and to fully commit to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, ahead of the comprehensive diplomatic efforts of all relevant parties to address all issues to ensure the sustainability of security, safety, and prosperity in the region
The meeting also discussed the exerted efforts to build effective diplomatic channels with Iran to prevent and resolve conflicts with the support of strong deterrence and defense cooperation with the United States of America, stressing the importance of the long-term partnership between the United States of America and the GCC, and their common determination to contribute to the stability and security of the region, as per the framework of the strategic partnership between the two sides.
The GCC and the US condemned the aggressive and dangerous Iranian policies, including the proliferation and direct use of advanced ballistic missiles and drone systems by Iran and its proxies in the region to target civilians and vital infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, and against sailors serving onboard civilian commercial ships in international waters in the Sea of Oman, and endangered the safety of the US forces fighting against ISIS.
The US and the GCC also discussed a wide range of regional issues, including the situation in Iraq and Yemen, and agreed that Iran’s support for armed militias across the region, and its ballistic missile program pose a clear threat to the regional security and stability.
