Riyadh, The first Saudi-British Artificial Intelligence Roundtable, co-organized by the Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence (SDAIA), King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), and the British embassy, was held at SDAIA headquarters in Riyadh on Tuesday.
The attendees of the meeting were Deputy General Supervisor of the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) Dr. Yaser Al-Onaizan, British Ambassador to the Kingdom Neil Crompton, and a group of senior representatives from both sides’ academia and private sectors.
The meeting addressed several topics involving artificial-intelligence (AI) ethics, policy, and regulation, including the pro-innovation orientation of the two countries, ways to benefit from AI, and challenges and best practices in tackling several issues such as privacy, public trust, transparency, and regulatory sandboxes. The attendees also discussed ways of how both countries’ representatives deal with the application of AI ethics.
The meeting portrayed research projects at KAUST that have the same features of projects in the United Kingdom (UK) and discussed boosting collaboration between the two countries in the field of AI.
The event was the first in a series of engagements, to be followed by Saudi Arabia’s participation in the first Artificial Intelligence Safety Summit that will take place in the UK on November 1 and 2 at the historical Bletchley Park, the birthplace of modern computing.
Last July, the Council of Ministers approved the establishment of the International Center of AI Research and Ethics in Riyadh. SDAIA also launched the AI Ethics Principles during the second edition of its Global AI Summit based in Riyadh.
