Spain renews solidarity with Ukraine

Spain on Saturday renewed solidarity with Ukraine and pledged to continue backing for the war-afflicted nation until "peace returns to Europe." Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was quoted in a tweet upon arriving in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital earlier today, as saying that he would convey to the Ukrainian leaders utter European solidarity.

He indicated that his visit to Ukraine marked first day of Madrid's assumption of the EU chairmansnhip and signalled desire to "start negotiations this year for Ukraine's accession into the European club." Spain's chairmanship of the EU expires on December 31.
