UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation announces future plans


AL HAMRIYAH: Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, lauded the outstanding results of the country’s national teams that participated in international events in 2023 and the first quarter of 2024.

He made this statement during the first meeting of the federation’s board of directors in 2024 at the headquarters of the Al Hamriyah Club, which the club’s board members attended, announced its future plans, and discussed its technical reports on the current season’s programmes.

Sheikh Ahmed also congratulated world champion Adel Khaled on winning the bronze medal in the ILCA 6 Masters World Championship in Australia last month, bringing home the UAE’s fourth world medal in three years.

He then congratulated the board of directors on the outstanding results and the advanced level of the modern sailing team, which won first place in the 16th Arab Sailing Championship held in Kuwait from 7th to 11th February, winning three gold medals, one silver, and one
bronze to top the overall standings, with the participation of 13 countries.

The board also recommended continuing the ongoing efforts to empower women in sailing and modern rowing sports, praising the outstanding results they achieved in various championships and the start of their training after they passed the third round of Olympic qualifiers.

The board discussed a report on the participation of People of Determination in various events and providing opportunities for their success at all local and regional championships and tournaments, which culminated in a successful partnership with Special Olympics UAE that will include the first GCC Modern Sailing Championship that will be scheduled for a new date.

Sheikh Ahmed also thanked the board of directors of the Al Hamriyah Club for hosting the first meeting of the federation’s board for 2024, and presented a commemorative shield to Ahmed Ali Saeed Al Ketbi, Vice President of the Club’s Board of Directors.
