World Green Economy Summit 2026 to Drive Energy Transformation

Abu Dhabi:The 12th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) is set to take place on October 21-22, 2026, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Organized by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO), the summit will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. The theme for this year's summit is 'From Success to Scale: Showcasing the Green Economy'.

According to Emirates News Agency, the summit will focus on four key thematic pillars: Energy Technology and Infrastructure, Business Strategy and Transition, Water and Food Security, and Finance. Additionally, it will address three cross-cutting themes: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Governance, and System Enablers. These discussions aim to explore the rapid deployment of clean power, the role of energy storage in renewable systems, and the contribution of emerging technologies like green hydrogen and nuclear energy to a low-carbon future.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD and CEO of DEWA, and Chairman of WGEO, emphasized the summit's role in supporting sustainable and innovative solutions for energy transformation. He highlighted that WGES serves as a global platform for exchanging expertise, expanding partnerships, and accelerating the transition to a green economy, crucial for meeting sustainable development goals in the face of growing energy demands.

During the summit, experts and decision-makers will discuss innovative solutions to achieve sustainability goals while maintaining grid reliability. Najib Saab, Secretary General of the Arab Forum for Environment and Development, pointed out that regions with a higher share of renewables have been less affected by gas and oil shortages, indicating a security-driven energy transition.

Arshad Mansoor, President and CEO of the Electric Power Research Institute, stressed the integration of solutions that deliver reliable electricity while reducing carbon emissions. Meanwhile, Mazin Khan, Chief Financial Officer of Masdar, noted the importance of innovation in financing to support the global energy transformation.

Angela Homsi, founder and President of Ignite Power, emphasized that transitioning to a green economy is both an economic and strategic imperative, while Dharmesh Kumar from WSP highlighted the need for scaling innovation and cross-sector collaboration to meet increasing energy demands. Valerio Capizzi of ING Bank and Sanjay Kommera, CEO of Accel1, both called for a shift from ambition to execution in the green economy, focusing on building resilient infrastructure.
