Abu Dhabi:UAE Customs successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle 16.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine at a land border crossing, thanks to the efforts of the General Directorate of Ports Security at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). The narcotics were expertly concealed inside a vehicle's tyre.
According to Emirates News Agency, customs inspectors grew suspicious when the vehicle passed through advanced scanning systems, which indicated irregularities. This led manual inspection teams, aided by the Customs and Security Support Department (K9), to uncover the drugs through a detailed search.
The seizure highlights the vigilance and expertise of the customs inspectors, as well as ICP's effective use of advanced technologies to enhance the detection of prohibited substances and prevent smuggling. Since the beginning of the year, the General Directorate of Ports Security has recorded 765 narcotics seizures, involving about 390 kilograms of drugs and 50,000 narcotic pills.
ICP praised the inspectors for their professionalism and efficiency in performing their duties. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing inspection capabilities to protect society from narcotics and prevent any threats to the security of the UAE, as part of wider national efforts to ensure societal safety.
